As some of you may know, I've been doing work for a dealer and helping him out all summer with random fixes and going to auctions and such. I was working on a Buick he picked up this past weekend and got to see this 944 he had picked up last week and told me about. When he mentioned he got one I didn't think much of it, he's into older BMW stuff, Porsche stuff, and plenty of other interesting cars. One of my buddies(who is my partner in the Lemons team) has always wanted a 944 and has gone to look at quite a few in the last year, and after seeing this thing in person I knew he'd be interested.
He picked up a '95 Wrangler a few months back when he was in a pinch for some wheels and has been dd'ing it since, while it has a pretty good body and immaculate interior for a '95 Jeep, the frame had some rust and the Jeep had definitely spent some time in the north, so he has been kind of looking to get out from under it. Long story short I talk with my boss and come up with a price he's willing to let the 944 go at and a number I could throw my friend's way as far as trade on the Jeep. Needless to say, we came to an agreement pretty quickly and he picked up the 944 last night and dropped the Jeep off.
I normally would not have pushed my friend to trade the Jeep he really liked for a car that I'm selling and honestly will make a little commission off of, but this Porsche is special. It does need a little TLC(clunky shifts and a bit of driveline slop, probably a tranny mount, and the throttle and clutch need to be adjusted) but overall this thing is about as good of an example as I have seen. It has ZERO rust, the engine bay is clean, no leaks, the body has less than 5 door dings, original paint, few rock chips, no fading, original graphics, all the badges are there, the interior is missing 2 switches and has one broken clip, but that's it, and the real kicker is 50,000 miles.
This car must have spent most of it's time as a summer toy because the history on it shows it having lived in Michigan for most of it's life until relocating to Florida about 3 years ago, and there's no way it would be that rust free if it had been anything less than coddled. I'm excited to see this thing get the little kinks worked out and stoked that it gets to stay in the area with someone I know will give it the love it deserves. It's going to look great in the driveway next to his RX7 FB.

50,000 MILES?? God damn. How much did he pay for it; if you don't mind my asking. That car looks pristine AF, and I want more pictures of it stat.

It's actually pretty rare to find one with it, they usually get pulled off for a front plate mount or end up gone over the years. I like it.

It's pretty well loaded out, and it's an '85, not an '85.5 so it still has the cool dome glass gauges and awesome dash, and has the optional wheels as you can see. I suppose saying the total price wouldn't hurt, but I don't want to say what we gave him on trade and all... the Porsche was sold for $5000, and he actually left town today and won't be back until next week, but I'll try to get some more pictures once he gets back. It is definitely the cleanest one I've seen. It doesn't even have any cracks in the leather, and only like 2 cracks in the dash.

The last time I saw one, it wasn't mounted straight and level. It looked like a cheapo aftermarket thing stuck on by the owner before or after some late-night drunken dragoning.

See? I'm not the only one! I think it's from the factory.

This one is definitely factory, I think since most states require front plates these days you just don't see many of them that haven't been reattached or removed.

His is cleaner than mine. But mine was $3200 and 118,000 miles.
I've got two barely noticeable dash cracks and a moderate crack/tear in the drivers seat bolster.
I love my dash. I would post a pic, but Kinja is being Kinja again to me

Holy hell, 5k? Even for an N/A 944, in that condition, is an awesome price.

Awesome dash? You lost me right there. The pre-85.5 dash is atrocious.

What year is yours? It's probably the same as what's in this one. The later one looks like it should be in a Ford Taurus. The only weird thing is the upside down tach, takes some getting used to.

But you could still get a 951 for $5k ;)

Yeah, but the thing is I'm not sure I would want a 951 for $5k, especially seeing some of the problems that can happen with the turbo (most I've seen for cheap require a turbo replacement/rebuild)

The pre 85.5 is so much more 80's awesomeness. The later ones look like any other 90's car.
That just doesn't do it for me like this does:

it's an '84. Same color, same wheels, but faded rock guards and minor rock-chipped paint up front.

When my son's 944 got totaled that was one of the things we janked off it.

galvanized sheetmetal helps with the 'no rust'.
